MITRA Middleware capabilities presented at the Russian Healthcare Week
06 December 2023
The report at the section organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives was devoted to the advantages of seamless integration of medical equipment with information systems in medical ecosystems.
A medical ecosystem means a region, department or corporation with its own healthcare system, a large network of private medical organizations. Usually, in such an ecosystem, many specialized information systems and services that automate various circuits - MIS, LIS, PACS, resuscitation and anesthesia information system, telemedicine consultation platform, sanitary transport dispatching system, and others - are operated simultaneously. They can be partially or fully integrated among themselves.
The main theses of the report:
- Integration of medical systems with devices allows to save doctors' time significantly by solving the problem of manual data entry.
- Integration with medical devices allows to reduce the probability of errors in electronic medical documents that arise due to the human factor during manual input.
- Companies-developers, solving the problem of integration of their systems with medical equipment, face the necessity to maintain in their staff expensive and rare expertise in driver development, and also have to spend project time on their development.
- Some foreign medical equipment manufacturers no longer provide support and consultations to Russian development companies, while descriptions of transport protocols are not publicly available.
- All over the world, Middleware class products are widely used when conducting research at the patient's place of treatment - outside the walls of a medical organization, when research is performed without referrals.
- Device manager in hardware is used to connect devices in places where it is not possible to use a stationary computer or laptop.
- Middleware allows organizing data transfer from medical devices of the ambulance to the MIS of the receiving institution in real time during patient transportation.
- The intensive care unit is one of the most "document-intensive" units. Physicians manually enter a huge number of vital signs into the intensive care chart and anesthesia flow chart, if such functionality is available in MIS. Often, they handwrite vitals from the device into a printed A3 document template.
- The automatic transfer to the MIS of data from tests and measurements made by medical devices contributes to the optimization of the patient's path and directly affects the improvement of clinical outcomes.
